Detroit Metro FC decisively wins its first match at home

BRIGHTON, MICHIGAN (April 5, 2025) - The season could not have started any better as Detroit Metro FC won their inaugural home opener at Legacy Center Sports Complex with a decisive 5-1 win over FK Olimpik Macomb.  In addition to being the home opener, it was the first ever match for the DMFC program.

DMFC started fast and Dehane Gnonrou added his first goal in the 16th minute with a shot from the left side of the field for the first goal of DMFC's history.  Max Rugova Jr. added a beautiful goal off a steal in the 26th minute for the team's second.

The second half started off slowly with FK Olimpik Macomb getting a goal back in the 52nd minute.  But after that goal, it was all Detroit Metro FC.  Derick Broche added a goal from inside the box in the 79th minute after a great run and pass from Rugova Jr.  Daniel Wright added a stunning strike from the top of the box to the upper left corner in the 82nd minute, and Gnonrou got his brace with a goal in the 89th minute to finish off the scoring.

It was a statement win for DMFC who enters its first season in the Midwest East Conference of the UPSL Premier Division.  The team has a couple of weeks off until their next match at home against Duka FC on April 25th at 7PM Eastern at Legacy Center Sports Complex.

Head Coach Alex Lubyansky added, "I want to thank all the fans who made it out today to be a part of this moment in Detroit Metro FC history.  It was a great environment for us to play in, and our team definitely showed up for the occasion.  But this is just game one, and we have a whole season ahead of us."
